About the Competition

The Taipei Excellence International Piano and Violin Competition was established to provide an opportunity for amateurs, music students, as well as developing musicians around the world. Our purpose is to discover young and talented musicians in a challenging yet supportive atmosphere. Amateurs are encouraged to apply, as are developing young musicians who seek further performance opportunities.

The Taipei Excellence International Piano Competition comprises TWO ROUNDS. Participants are required to submit video recording link for First/Preliminary Round(online). Participants who achieve the score standard are entitled to advance to the Final Round. The Final Round will be held in music hall in Taipei.We aim to give participants supreme environment and best experience. Participants will receive valuable and constructive feedback from our esteemed jury panel which consists of juries from around the world.

General Rules
The Competition comprises TWO ROUNDS
First / Preliminary Round (Online)
Participants are required to submit a public link of a video recording of their performance (via YouTube, Vimeo, or other platforms). Private links will not be accepted.

  1. Repertoire requirement: Please submit the recording following the assigned repertoire listed for each age category.
  2. The recordings will be judged by jury panel. Participants who achieve the score standard are entitled to advance to the Final Round.
  3. Application fee for First Round is NTD1,800. All application fees are non-refundable.

Final Round
Final Round of the competition will be held on 8th – 10th October 2022 at KHS Music Hall (2 F, No.162, Zhongshan 2nd Rd., Luzhou Dist., New Taipei City 247, Taiwan.)

  1. Participants can play one or two repertoires chosen by themselves.
  2. Each performance will be recorded by professional recording team. All videos are available for download after the competition (the exact date will be announced then).
  3. Please re-register during the application period to proceed to the Final Round. Application fee varies from each age category (Please refer to the attached list). All application fees are non-refundable.

  5. Intermediate Category — Birthdate between September 2, 2007 to September 1, 2010
  6. Advanced Category — Birthdate between September 2, 2004 to September 1, 2007
  7. Professional Category — Studying in College, Graduate school or Doctoral Program

Video Requirements

  1. Participants must submit the link of performance video recordings on YouTube or any other platforms of the assigned piece of each category for first round. (Deadline: July 10, 2022).
  2. All video recordings must be filmed horizontally with participant's whole body in the frame. Please film from the right-hand side for piano recordings, and from the front for violin recordings.
  3. All video recordings must be unedited (it is only acceptable for introduction title with musician’s name, age category, title of piece and the composer).
  4. Memorization is mandatory. Participants will not be allowed to read music sheets.
  5. By applying to Taipei Excellence International Piano and Violin Competition, participants give the competition rights to use the video for streaming on Facebook, YouTube, and other video platforms.
  6. Due to Covid-19, video recordings made at home or at a location of the participant's convenience will be perfectly acceptable. The jury panel values each applicant’s performance, and video quality will not affect their decisions.

Note:
1. Movements in one work can be considered as one repertoire. For example, mov. I & II in Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major, Op. 109.
2. Please choose repertoires which is within the time limit, or otherwise receive a score penalty of 2 points.
3. Timmer starts as the participant bows onstage.

Final Round Regulations
  1. Memorization is mandatory. Participants will not be allowed to read music sheets.
  2. All participants should play from the very beginning of the repertoire.
  3. Overtime will be stopped by the bell ring and will receive score penalty of 2 points. A score penalty will also be received if the participant keeps on playing after the bell ring.
  4. The order of participants is determined by drawing by Competition Committee.
